William Schwarck

October 13, 1921 — February 6, 2009

William Sherman Schwarck of Spencer, Iowa, was born to Dr. Paul F. and Margaret Keller Schwarck, October 13, 1921, in Spencer, Iowa. Bill attended and graduated from Spencer High School. He served in the 8th Armored Division, of the U.S. Army. He received his basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and remained there as an instructor of motorcycles. He was transferred to Camp Polk, Louisiana, with the 49th Armored Infantry Battalion. He returned to Ft. Knox to motor vehicle school. From there, Bill went to Camp Kilinar, where he left for England. On D-Day, he arrived in France where he served throughout the European tour and served in General Patton's 3rd Army receiving several medals including the Bronze Star. On August 26, 1943, in Louisville, Kentucky, he married Ruth Jensen. She accompanied Bill at various camps until their first son was born. Upon his return from the service, Bill was employed by International Harvester, commuting from their home at Lake Okoboji. Bill was employed by Pixler Electric for 25 years followed by Land O' Lakes. After retirement, summers found him working with Rohlin's Construction as the technical advisor. Bill enjoyed Lake Okoboji and the Texas Gulf. He loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in their various sports. He was an avid reader. Bill was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars and Kiwanis. Bill passed away on February 6, 2009, at his home in Spencer at the age of 87. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, a brother and a great grandson. Bill is survived by his wife, Ruth; three sons: Terry and wife, Karen of Punta Gorda, FL; Greg and wife, Janet of Minneapolis, MN, Jeff and wife, Andrea of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and his daughter, Susan and her husband, Wayne Brockman of Lees Summit, MO; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; many nieces and nephews and many friends.

Upon Bill's request, no services will be held at this time. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
