William Arthur DeVos, the son of William and Gertrude (Pluim) DeVos, was born on June 2, 1921, in Sioux Center, IA. He grew up in Sioux County and attended and graduated from high school in Ireton.
On October 28, 1942, William married Betty Lyle in Lawton IA. Shortly after their marriage, he entered into the military on December 18, 1942, serving in the U.S. Army, stationed in Italy and Africa. He obtained the rank of Corporal. He was honorably discharged on February 14, 1946.
William returned to Sioux City, IA after his military service. He spent many years in LeMars and Marion managing rural power companies. In 1984, he retired and the couple moved to Heber Springs, AR.
William grew up with a Dutch Reformed background, he was always helping with handy work. While living in Arkansas he was active in Women's Abuse shelters for a long time. He was always involved with his church as well as the Mason's and Shriner's. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved spending time with his family.
William passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at St. Luke Lutheran Home, Spencer, IA, at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Art, Russ and Ed.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty of Spencer, IA; two sons: William (Randa) of Murphy, TX and James (Wynne) of Estherville, IA; his daughter, Pamela (David) Perata of Ruthven, IA; 11 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 1, 2014, at the Riverside Cemetery.
OFFICIATING
There will be a Masonic Service conducted by the Evening Shade Lodge #312 A.F.& A.M. of Spencer.
