Winifred Louise Cooper Schoenewe was born in Spencer, Iowa to Lynn and Loretta Harris Cooper on January 2, 1933.
Winnie attended public schools in Everly and Spencer and graduated from Everly High School in 1950. She married Ron Schoenewe in 1952 and they made their home in Everly where he managed Topsoil Schoenewe, a fertilizer and ag lime business. They raised and educated four children in Everly: Lee, Renette, Marc, and Greg.
Winnie was known for her many kind acts and her love of people. She took care of the sick and sat by many death beds. The week before she died she helped deliver 300 May baskets she had made to nursing home residents. She had an optimistic view of life and was willing to share gifts of her food, her time, and her compassion.
Her family was musical and she enjoyed sharing her music. She spent many years in the Everly Kitchen Band and was in the Bell Choir at the First Christian Church. The day of her death she was scheduled to play bells with her church choir at a nursing home. Winnie Schoenewe passed away suddenly at her home on May 10, 2019.
Winnie was preceded in death by her parents Lynn and Loretta Cooper, her in-laws Dorothy Schoenewe Thorne and A.M. Schoenewe, her husband Ron Schoenewe, her daughter Renette Schoenewe House, and her brothers Leo, Roger, Gerald, Frank, and Robert Cooper, and her sister Shirley Lauck.
Winnie is survived by her sister Cynthia Baxter of Primghar, Iowa; her son Lee (Nancy) Schoenewe of Spencer, Iowa; her son Marc (Patty) of Olathe, Kansas; her son Greg (Beth) of Ackworth, Iowa; her grandson Eric (Julie) House of Irving, Texas; her grandson Tucker Schoenewe (Anne) of Norwalk, Iowa; her granddaughter Amanda Schoenewe of Olathe, Kansas; and great-grandsons Jameson and Hayden House.
