Yen Lovan the son of Doi and Hau Lothi Lovan, was born on October 5, 1917 in Son La Chieng Pac, North Vietnam. In 1945, he walked 3 days barefoot without food and water to escape from North Vietnam.
On May 1979, Yen Lovan's family left Laos to Nong Khai, Thailand refugee camp for one year and moved to Phillipine refugee camp in 1980 for one year and in February of 1981, the family arrived in the U.S. The family settled in Spencer, Iowa.
Yen Lovan worked part-time as a custodian at the Season Center for 4 - 5 years. In 1985 Yen retired. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Yen passed away at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa on Thursday, January 3, 2007 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his father Doi Lovan; his mother, Hau Lothi; three brothers: An Lovan, Lae Lovan and San Lovan; a sister, Sien Lothi and one great grandson, Kevin Keohavong.
Yen is survived by his wife, Duen Lovan of Spencer; 6 children, four daughters and
two sons: Son Kan Lovan in Vietnam; daughter, La Lothi in Vietnam, daughter, Than Lovan and her husband, Joe Lovan of Spencer, IA, daughter, Thin Lovan of Spencer, daughter, Phoung Lovan and her husband, Heup Lovan of Spencer, son, Lou Lovan and his wife, Veuy Lovan of Spencer; his grandchildren: Pom Kavan and her special friend, Aaron Cook of Storm Lake, IA, Fay Denton and her husband, Gary of Hendersonville, TN, Khao Lo and his special friend, Jennifer Hill of Foster City, CA, Alex Lovan of Spencer, Charlie Baccam of Spencer, Michael Baccam and his wife, Melinda of Des Moines, IA, Daniel Baccam of Spencer, Peter Baccam of Spencer, Lutda Lovan, Mindy Lovan, Bryan Lovan, Tiffany Lovan and Teanna Lovan all of Spencer, IA; 7 great grandchildren: Jesse Kavan & Samantha Kavan of Storm Lake, IA, Aveeda Keohavong and Aleena Keohavong of Hendersonville, TN, Kaiden Lo and Kaige Lo of Foster City, CA and Talan Baccam of Des Moines, IA and one younger brother, E. Lovan.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
