Zelma Mae Mohror, the daughter of H.C. and Ina (Harris) Duke, was born December 2, 1906 in Clay County rural Peterson, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the Royal, Iowa area, where she received her education, graduating from Royal High School in 1925. She attended Iowa State Teachers College Branch School in Sheldon, Iowa, where she attained a teacher's certificate to teach in country schools. Zelma taught in country schools in Clay County for four years.
On June 17th of 1930, Zelma married Elmer Mohror. They lived in the Peterson area where Elmer did commercial trucking and later they farmed north of Peterson until 1962, when they moved to Sutherland, Iowa. Zelma helped Elmer in his trucking business by running errands for him and driving the school bus until the arrival of their 3 daughters. They then moved to the farm and started farming, where she helped in the fields and raised a large vegetable garden. Elmer and Zelma spent many winters traveling to South Texas to spend the winters. They enjoyed making and renewing friendship each year they were able to go. She also enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and getting acquainted with her great great grandchildren and looking forward to their visits. Zelma was a member of the Methodist Church of Peterson, Iowa and later transferred her membership to the Sutherland Methodist Church. For the past several years, she has been a resident of Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley.
Three daughters were born of this marriage. They are Shirley Duncan and her husband, Robert of Hartley, Iowa, Barbara Rohrbaugh and her husband, Ronald of Peterson, Iowa and Beverly Kreibaum of Sutherland.
Zelma enjoyed helping her husband with the farming, gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting, baking homemade bread and pies and cakes. She was especially found of traveling and fishing in their retirement years. She was always pleased to have the family get-togethers at their large family home.
In addition to her daughters, Zelma has 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and three great - great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Elmer in 2003; a great granddaughter, Mindy Nichols; two sisters: Edna Brown and Eleanor Berry and a son-in-law, Dale Kreibaum.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland.

Visitation will begin after 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M., Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Sutherland.
