Zerena Frances Dardis, was born on June 7, 1920 to Leslie Harlow and Lillie Mae Wirtz Simington in Dickens, Iowa. She spent her school years at Lake Center and Ayrshire graduating from Ayrshire High School in 1937.
On January 15, 1940, Zerena married Gilbert William Dardis at Sacred Heart Church in Ayrshire, Iowa. She and Gilbert farmed until moving to Ruthven in 1954. They commuted to Spencer for work until moving to Spencer in 1960.
Zerena’s favorite hobbies were sewing, making dolls and tending to her flower gardens.
The flower gardens were a big part of her life and were very beautiful. Many admirers commented that Zerena’s flowers were the prettiest in Spencer.
Zerena passed away on October 6, 2019 at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Spencer at the age of 99.
Zerena was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Charlotte (Vernon) Cherry, Kathleen (Crow) Eagle and Geneva (Joe) McGuire, a daughter, Ellie (Bill) LaFont, a son, Rodney (Janie) Dardis) and her husband, Gilbert.
She is survived by her children Darlene (Don) Young, Lt Gen (Ret) Ron (Carmel) Dardis, Roger (Jeanne) Dardis and Cindy (Jim) Feldman, a sister Luetta (Abbie) Seagren, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
