“to family of Jerry Gross.
You have our condolences. He has been a big part of many lives and positive impact on all of us blessed to know Jerry Gross. What a great guy. The impact of Jerry does not end with his death. He will shine forever in heaven and his memory will live on in hearts of all of us blessed to know him.
This is the tribute I posted on Facebook.
Raymond Gross died on Oct.29, 1971. Jerry Gross died today. 50 years ago Jerry-eldest of Ray and Pat’s 5 kids was just 8 months beyond his 21st birthday and had to grow up fast. With grace, good humor and natural ability Jerry took on leadership role. He was bridal escort for his little sisters Jane Smith and Kathy Colucci when each married. He was a kidder who liked to tease. He could give as well as take it. I had fun teasing him to take his picture. Though technically not related my siblings and I felt we were family. My big brother EbenandLynn Salton was 5 days older than Jerry. They good friends, K-12 classmates at South Clay plus roommates at Iowa State. Eben smiles when he said he lasted so long at college thanks to Jerry! Jerry Gross was an icon at school who excelled in baseball, football being admired by teachers and students alike. In Variety Show skits Jerry played affable Charlie Brown with comedic timing to delight of audience. When Uncle Kenny Salton gave Jerry his diploma in 1968, he got a chuckle as he proudly announced
Jerry”Charlie Brown” Gross. A few years ago I told Jerry I grew up hearing about how wonderful he was and he could do NO wrong. He laughed in humble Aw shucks way.
Last time I saw Jerry was a year ago (2.29.2020. at funeral of our cousin LarryandMarti Salton. I was sitting in my wheelchair, heartbroken. Jerry leaned over gave me a gentle hug and soft words to console. His kind eyes and half smile said he understood my sorrow and just like big brothers do he made it better. God bless the memory of Jerry Gross. I know you were greeted in heaven by family and friends happy to reunite. You will always be remembered by family and friends who thank God for creating you.”
