Eric Michael Foxhoven, the son of Ronald and Kathy (Muller) Foxhoven was born August 14, 1973, in Mapleton, Iowa. His childhood years were spent Mapleton where he attended school before moving to Spencer, Iowa, in 1987. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1992.

Eric attended the Aviation program through Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa. He always wanted to be a pilot.  While in high school, he saved every penny from his job at Super Valu to pay for flying lessons and was very proud that he received his private pilot’s license at the age of 16. After college, he lived and worked out of Minneapolis, Minnesota until moving to Kansas City, Missouri where he flew for Executive Air and Wheels Up.

Eric enjoyed flying, dogs, spending time with family, and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, being a season ticket holder for the last 10 years. He cherished all his friends he met throughout his life.

Eric passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at his home at the age of 47. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joe and Veronica Foxhoven; and maternal grandfather, Walter Muller.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Ronald and Kathy Foxhoven of Spencer, IA; two sisters: Sherry (Jason) Clements of Kingsley, IA, and Brenda (Scot) Francis of Royal, IA; one niece, Trinity; four nephews: Kolby, Jaden, Auston, and Gavin; one grandmother, Marian Muller of Spencer, IA; other relatives and many friends.

“Condolences to the Foxhoven family for their loss of Eric (Foxy). Eric was a true friend and I have a lot of fond memories of our times together. From our boating trips with our other friends on Lake Okojobi, to our trips to the Pro-Bowl in Hawaii or NASCAR racing events, we had a good time. One thing I admired about Eric, is what you saw is what you got. He was a straight shooter. We flew together at Great Lakes for 2 months right before he upgraded to Captain. He was a fine pilot. I enjoyed his calls to me to see what I was up to or just to talk about life. His door was always open to me and I will always be grateful for having a true friend like Eric (Foxy). He will be missed.”

“We are ALL at a loss... learning of the passing of Eric. Fond thoughts of Eric at SPW, learning to fly, fueling aircraft, running manual copies, SO excited to be asked to attend BE1900 Ground School. And Eric was always on the move, headed to HNL, LAX, LGA etc, somewhere all the time. Your Friends in the Aviation world are going to be missing this guy in the sky!
"High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."

“My heart goes out to the Foxhoven family. Eric “Foxy” has been a long time friend. One of those forever friends who always checked in and showed up any chance he could for his friends and family. His laugh was contagious! He always had a story to tell and he loved reminiscing the good old times!
Our friend groups children all knew him as “Uncle Foxy”! We will cherish all the great times we had with him. Praying for peace and support for your families during this difficult time. ”

“Eric was good friend for over 30 years. I remember the first time I met him. He had just refueled a airplane in the rain and was soaking wet, like a muskrat, we called him “Muskie “ from then on. Over the years we went to Steelers games, that were in KC , we never lost. WWF wrestling all over the Midwest and races in Brainerd . He flew me all over the place so I could fix a plane somewhere. I just talked to him last month, we had a bunch of laughs as usual. Going to miss them and you buddy.

“To the Foxhoven family, I am profoundly sorry for your loss. Foxy has been a good friend for the last 25 years. I will miss our frequent phone conversations.
Eric was known as one of the hardest working Captains at Great Lakes Aviation, being very knowledgeable, while at the same time helping the First Officers he flew with improve their skills. Eric was a fine example of a Captain, being able to take command of a situation without being overbearing.
Foxy was a person that played as hard as he worked. I spent many great days on his boat at Lake Okoboji.
I will miss you, my friend. ”
