Arland Eugene (Joe) Scott was born May 25, 1929 to Kenneth and Hazel Olson Scott.  He attended grade school in Rossie and when his family moved to Spencer, and later the Spencer school, graduating from high school in 1950.  Joe worked at the Spencer theater, Trianon Roller Rink, and KICD Radio Stations.  He always helped his dad in the rose bed and dahlia garden.  He loved mowing lawns and mowed a lot at KICD.  Joe suffered a stroke in July 1994 and retired from KICD.

Joe has made his home at Northshire Residence the last few years.  He loved sports and was an avid fan of the Vikings, Twins and Spencer Tigers.  He so enjoyed the visits from Coach Tighe.

Joe’s church was Grace United Methodist Church and he also enjoyed the church service at Northshire.

Joe was a good friend to everyone.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Duane and a sister in infancy, Carolyn.

He is survived by nephews: Steve and Shawn; niece, Laurie; several cousins including Sylvia (Don) Schoer who were his caregivers for years and other friends.

Thanks to Northshire for his excellent care while his made his home there.

“So sorry to hear of Joe's passing. We grew up down the street from him. We would ride bike and skate into his driveway. He always had a smile, laugh or good advice for us as kids. He was also so kind and patient. ”

“I enjoyed knowing and working with you at KICD in the mid 70's. I also have to say that you sometimes knew more things about the workings of that station than some other employees! Your friendliness and sense of humor will be missed my friend. Enjoy the eternal happiness that our Lord promised us. ”

“For over 50 years and through 3 generations, Joe Scott has been a wonderful friend of the Goodson family as well as their cousins from Colorado. We have many great stories of great times together when we laughed so hard our bellies hurt. We visited with Joe many times at Northshire and he always looked forward to coming to our property on West Lake Okoboji to celebrate his birthday or the 4th of July. Joe was fanatic about following all sports at the University of Iowa and our family is proud to fly a Hawkeye flag in his honor this summer. God bless Joe for all the kindness he showed to our family. We are friends forever!”

“The most kind and gentle man I have ever known. The many years he dedicated himself to the upkeep of the radio station. He liked nothing more than to be out on the tractor mowing the tower grounds and tending to his newly planted flowers around the station. God Bless you Joe!”

“Joe was a good guy, and in some ways a legend in Spencer. He was always available to lend a helping hand if he could, and for many years was one of the "Buckaroos" who used to meet for coffee or lunch. He had a sense of humor, a kind heart, and enjoyed life.”
