Dale Elmore Larsen, the son of T.C. and Dagmar (Andersen) Larsen, was born on December 5, 1928, in Meadow Township in Clay County. He received his education and grew up in the communities of Spencer, IA, Arnolds Park, IA, and Rancho Santa Fe, CA, before returning to Spencer where he graduated from high school.

On September 9, 1950, Dale married Mary Lou Mett at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Spencer area for over 70 years. They spent summers at their home in Okoboji for 16 years and wintered in Arizona for the past 23 years.

Dale was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where he helped with Sunday School and was an usher for many years. He was involved in Luther League, served as a 4-H leader, an Assistant Superintendent in the Floriculture Division of the Clay County Fair and enjoyed many years as an REC Board member. Dale was a very talented and gentle man who enjoyed gardening, tending to his flowers and sharing the bounty and beauty of his handiwork with others. He played golf until he was 90, was known by friends and family alike as a very competitive card shark and in his younger years, enjoyed dancing. His greatest joys in life were farming and spending time with his family and friends.

Dale passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at his home place surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Lillian, Marilyn and Janet.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Lou of Spencer, IA; his 3 sons: Alan and his wife, Shirley of Phoenix, AZ, Mark and his wife, Robyn of Spencer, IA and David and his wife, Kelli of Spencer, IA; his 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; his brother Eldon (Pat) of Spencer, IA; as well as other family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00P.M., Friday, September 3, 2021, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

“Dear MaryLou, Alan, Mark, and David (& families);
I’m so very sorry for your loss of Dale! I will miss him too! He was quiet & mellow like my Dad and Grampa Larsen! I wish they would’ve shared some height with me! Haha
I truly apologize for missing the funeral, but COVID cases have increased down here, so I stay “quarantined” most of the time these days! I love you all & send hugs, prayers and blessings! At least he is at peace and lived a long full life!
MaryLou, (hope I’m spelling your name right?!) I know it will be very lonely and painful for you, so extra prayers for the loss of the love of your life! ( Extra hugs & prayers for you!) I mailed a card, but sorry it won’t make it in time! At least you’re in my thoughts and heart!! I hope you knowthat!
Love you always and forever, from your niece,
- Julie (Larsen) Fisher

So sorry to hear of Dale’s passing.
He certainly was one of the good guys and he will be greatly missed by family and friends alike!
Always enjoyed his responses on Facebook and conversations we had. Not to mention talking to him about his beautiful flowers 🌸 he grew by the drainage ditch across the street from your house.
Take care and God Bless 🙏🏻✝️”

“Mary Lou and Family,
We were crushed when we heard Dale passed over. We certainly know where this precious guy is. You were always dear friends and we have so many wonderful things we cherish about you and those very special sons. The times we spent with each one of you in First United Methodist were very happy times. We were very proud of the roles our offspring had in church, choir, and other activities. We truly regret we did not get to spend more time with you in Arizona. We loved all of you and have always admired and felt very close to you. We regret we were not there for Dale’s service. These are difficult times. We lost our son/brother, Craig, just before his birthday in July last year.
Mary Lou, you and Dale set such an example for all of us in following Christ. Seeing you two always made us happy and was so up-lifting. Speaking of happy, what an awesome smile Dale always had on his face for us. He made us feel great. We still see that beautiful smile that matched his generosity and kindness. You two exuded love ❤️ to everyone. God be with you and the boys
Mary Lou - now and forever. You were truly blessed by having such an outstanding soul mate, father, and friend. Love and God’s blessings to each and everyone of you!
Belle and Christine”

“So sorry to hear about Dale’s passing. We was a great kind man and so enjoyed to see what he would come up out of his junk pile to weld together for exhibit at the fair.
One year at the fair I helped him with the chain. I said “ Dale I have never been a chain gang but I am glad we are on the same gang” 🤣. What a inspiration to so many.
