Lucille Ethel (McCoy) Rose passed away peacefully on September 8, 2021 at Accura HealthCare in Milford, IA with family at her side.

Lucille was born on her family’s farm in Terril, IA on August 19, 1925, the fourth of nine children, to Orph and Era McCoy.  The family moved to Clarkfield, MN in her Junior year.  After graduation she moved to Spencer where she worked at the dime store.  She married Frank Rose on July 23, 1945 in Elizabeth City, NC.  After Frank was discharged from the Navy, they returned to Spencer.  They were married 74 years when Frank passed away two years ago.

Lucille’s hobbies included reading, sewing, crocheting and needleworking.  She loved antiques and, along with her husband, refinished many of them.  She was involved in the Reading With Students Program in Spencer and Weslaco, TX.  Lucille was also a member of Tri-T’s, Federated Club, Methodist Women’s Circle, Eastern Star and Bridge Club.  She was a Brownie Leader and room mother.  Lucille and Frank enjoyed spending winters in Weslaco, TX after his retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents, Orph and Era McCoy; brothers and their spouses:  Leland (Audrey), Kenneth, Dale (Shirley), Duane (Dorothy) and Delbert (Carol); sisters: Marie (Darrell) Cushman and Colleen Olson; and brother-in-law, Andrew VanDorpe.

“Remembering Lucille, mother of our dear friends Richard and Barbara. We were very sorry to learn of her passing.
We first met Lucille in Scotland. She and Frank were visiting their son, Richard, a fellow at The University of Glasgow. Although many years have passed since meeting Lucille and Frank, we shall always remember a wonderful Sunday afternoon getting to know them and sharing a traditional British Sunday lunch at our home.
It was a pleasure to have known them both. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers, and that we share in your sorrow.
