Ruth Adeline Johnson, the daughter of Elmer and Gena (Forthun) Ness was born on August 12, 1925, in Ada, Minnesota. She grew up and attended county schools in the Ada area and in Hendrum, Minnesota in her teens.

Ruth married William “Frank” Johnson on February 12, 1942, in Ada, Minnesota. Shortly after their marriage, William entered the military and Ruth lived with Frank’s parents in Everly. When he returned from his military duty, they lived by Everly until 1969 when they moved to Spencer. She worked at several places over the years before she retired.

Ruth was a member of Langdon Methodist Church and involved in church circles. She enjoyed crocheting and made afghans for each of the children and grandchildren and was working on them for the great-grandchildren. After raising their children, she loved helping Frank on the farm and being on the tractor, as she said it was better than being inside doing housework. She would rather turn off the TV and pick up a book but did occasionally enjoy a good western.

Ruth passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Ruthven Care Center at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1996; son, Maurice “Skip” Johnson and Gerald “Jerry” Johnson; grandsons: Frank, Justin and Jerry Johnson; brothers: Frances and Merle Ness; and one sister, Grace Tiede; daughter-in-law, Chris Johnson and son-in-law, Winston Watson.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Janice Delong (Steve) of Mason City, IA, Nancy Watson of Clear Lake, IA, and Sue Simpson (Roger) of Wahpeton, IA; sons: Steve Johnson (JoAnn) of Alta, IA, and Darwin Johnson (Brenda) of Spencer, IA; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Vangie Harris (Bill) of Spencer, IA; sister-in-law, Lois Johnson of Everly, IA; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be 2:00P.M., Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

“Nancy, Sue, and the rest of the family: I am so sorry to hear of the death of Addie. She was a one of a kind lady -always kind to everyone, always made you feel welcome in her home. Many great memories of spending time with the family in their tiny house east of Fostoria. We were wall to wall people but we had so much fun and everyone could feel the love in that house. Sending you all sincere sympathy, love, and prayers at this very sad time. ”
