“Lois, Carol and families I am so very sorry to hear of 'Roger's death. He was one of my favorite people. I loved his sense of humor and love of life. I remember when he came into the hotel to eat I had to burn his toast until it was black as coal. I am sorry I was unable to attend his funeral, I had a mayor meeting for a couple of days out of town. Sending you all my sincere sympathy at this very sad time.. Love, Julie Thiesen(Joines)”

“Uncle Roger will be missed so very much. He had a long life, and for that, we are thankful. He was a man of many talents. Was caring, knowledgeable, had a special insight when it came to just dealing with everyday life. Dealt with many challenges and adventures. His humorous side was memorable. Love you very much Roger. Rest in peace.”

“Never knew Roger well but I was always remember when I worked at Redmond's Shoe Store I'd coffee at the Rexall Drug Store. I think maybe Roger's wife worked at the cafe part of the store. Anyway it was during the Spencer 100 year centennial and several of us were growing facial hair and Roger had none. So I asked him why. His response was "God gave me this beautiful face why would I want to cover it with hair?" I never forgot that and often wondered about Roger over the years and now I know the rest of the story. RIP Roger!”

“Dear family,
Thinking of your all. I did not know Roger real well..l but my uncle Jack Johnson sure did.
I think maybe at one time Roger worked for a Spencer Brokerage that my uncle had. I know Uncle Jack gave Roger a Nickname but sorry I can not remember it. But I remember them being good friends. I remember Roger always smiling.. I bet right now they are telling jokes to each other. Know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.”

“We are so very sorry for your loss. Jennifer and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him at HyVee for breakfast on Saturdays whenever he and Lois would come. I could always look forward to stories and the friendly insults he and I would toss back and forth. I really missed seeing him there because of the pandemic, and I sit here this morning with tears in my eyes writing this after hearing of his passing on the radio. I considered him more than just a casual acquaintance and I am really going to miss him.”
