Dorothy Christina Steven, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Warner) Berry, was born on August 2, 1926, in Hampstead London, England. Her childhood years were spent in Tottenham London where she received her education. After her schooling, Dorothy’s first job was with Cable and Wireless. She then worked at Abney Park Cemetery because of her beautiful handwriting.

Dorothy married Elmer “Steve” Steven on August 19, 1945, in London England. After Steve’s honorable discharge from the United States Air Force, he returned to northwest Iowa with Dorothy arriving in Spencer May 4, 1946. They made their home in Spencer. Elmer and Dorothy enjoyed 50 years they spent at the cottage on Lake Minnewashta with family, friends, and neighbors.

Dorothy worked at the Spencer Hospital gift shop for over 30 years.  She enjoyed being a Cub Scout Leader, playing cards with the Golden K Kiwanis Club and the Lions Club. Dorothy and Steve loved to travel, especially attending the Air Force group reunions which were held in a different state every year and traveling to many memorable places with Farmers Bank. They both worked at the Clay County Fair with Steve driving the tractor and Dorothy working in the fair booth.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother. She was very proud of having five generations.

Left to cherish her memory are four sons: Geoffrey (Marilyn) Steven of Reinbeck, IA, Bryan (Janice) Steven of Spencer, IA, Keith Steven of Mason City, IA, and Kevin Steven of Spencer, IA; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Graveside Services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, October 10, 2022 at Northlawn Memorial Park in Spencer.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to People for Pets or St. Luke Lutheran Home.

“I am so very sorry for your loss! Your Mom was one of my favorite people in my childhood years. She had the gift to make you feel truly valued and special. I loved going to your house to visit with my parents! She was such a great cook! I enjoyed hearing her stories from her youth. She will always hold a dear and special place in my heart! I would have loved to come to the service but I wasn't aware of her passing. A glitch in communication within my family. Our love to you all! God's blessings, Cubby and Donna”

“I am SOOO sorry that I missed Dorothy's funeral! We have been gone for a couple of weeks and I just saw her obituary this morning. I would have surely been there to pay my respects if I had known. I have many fond memories of Steve and Dorothy and, of course, all of the brothers growing up. She was always a kind soul and a good friend. Sorry to hear of her passing. May she rest in peace. ”

“I was fortunate to have Elmer and Dorothy travel with me on a Heritage Club trip to Kansas City. One evening we went to a dinner theatre. One of the songs played was from :"Pretty Woman". I sat by Dorothy and Elmer, and we had a blast. From that day forward, whenever I saw Dorothy, I always called her Pretty Woman. They were a very special couple and are celebrating together once again.”
