“I just learned of Eleanor's passing. What an amazing life she lived through all those 105 years. I remember so many people saying what a great teacher she was. My dad, Loren, always spoke highly of his cousin Eleanor. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you 3 sons & your families. She will be remembered fondly by al who knew her.”

“Eleanor was such a caring person. I remember she and two of her friends visiting nursing home residents and she was older than the people she was visiting. She loved people and it was always good to visit with her at school reunions. Oh what a memory she had. ”

“So sorry for your loss. She also was a treasured teacher to me! I went to Brooke School for kindergarten and first grade so Eleanor was my first teacher in Peterson. It was quite a transition because all of us were being sent to different schools back then but she made it very good for us but I do remember she was very strict, but we learned it was the best and truly loved and respected her! She will be missed by all! You have our deepest sympathy💜”

“Eleanor was so special to me. When I started going to church with my mom in Royal Eleanor was there ready to welcome us. She went out of her way to talk to me and help me feel loved. As every year passed I was in awe of how active she still was since time just kept passing and she never slowed down. She always made me feel special and like everything I did was great. When she found out I was going to school to become a teacher she was so excited to tell me all about her experience. I am so appreciative of the time I had with her and the impact she had on my life. Although I won't be able to be there for her memorial I will still honor her life. ”

“Miss Reed was teaching at Trimello Country School 4 miles west of Royal and she ask my parents to send me to school at the age of 4 along with another 4 year old. So she ended up with 4 Shirley's in school. Always enjoyed visiting with her through the years and she catching up on how her students were doing. Shirley Buhrman Roghair”

“Miss Reed was an important lady to me beginning as a student in her 1st grade classroom. The highlight for me was her breaking me of the habit of sucking my finger. She put a clean white sock on my hand. My mother continued the routine at home each night at bedtime. When I returned to Royal to visit my family, she always asked about my teaching career. Even after I left the public schools, we would talk about my career as a professor at Wichita State University training students to become teachers. A highlight was always seeing her at the Royal alumni reunions. Eleanor was a very special lady.”

“Rick, John, Tony. My condolences on the loss of your mother. She was part of group of teachers for Sioux Valley, both Peterson and Linn Grove that always put their students first. Mom loved golfing and cards after they both retired. May God keep you in his arms. ”

“I am so sorry to hear of the loss of one of the best teachers in Sioux Valley. To the family of Mrs. Nielsen I send my deepest sympathies. We lived by all of them as I was growing up and road the bus with the boys. Mrs. Nielsen helped me so much with math when I was younger ( before I got diagnosed with epilepsy) she took time out everyday to help me. We did not know at that time my attention was pulled away with simple seizures then. I think about the times we would go and visit and check out the kitties on the farm. She will be missed by all. Again you will always be cherished by myself and others. Thank you for your service at school and being a friend as well. Love to all.”
